Planning a visit to Dubai? To travel to great locations around the city, using a car rental is undoubtedly a smart decision. However, using one of the best car rental agencies at Dubai Airport can provide you with a lot of flexibility and make scheduling your vacation easier.

If you consider visiting sites or business areas not accessible by the Dubai Metro or other sources of social transportation, having your car gives you much more freedom.

Airport Overview

One of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is an affluent city in this oil-producing area. This city is one of the most popular in the world; Dubai focuses on tourism and has advertised itself as the “shopping landmark” of the Middle East.

Undoubtedly Dubai International Airport’s duty-free spots are a popular tourist destination in their own right. The airport is a leading platform in the city and one of the largest airports in the world by visitor numbers.

At Dubai International, transportation can be hectic. It’s a big, linear building – so be ready to do some movements if you catch a seat. Terminals 1 and 3 are used primarily for foreign visitors and makeup 90% of the airport’s total traffic.

Terminal 3 is used only by Emirates Airlines and is attached to Terminal 1 through transit, so you don’t have to go through immigration. Although, you do have to navigate your way through the duty-free zone – which is often very populated.

Local and budget airlines use Terminal 2. You’ll need to use the airport shuttle to go because it’s on the other end of the terminal.

Terminal Transfer

In each of the three terminals, there are particular transfer desks. Use desks A and B in Terminal 1 for people traveling Emirates, C, and D for those flying other airlines, and E (on the lower level) for transfers to Terminal 2. G, H, and J are the three transfer desks at Terminal 3.

Getting into Town

Train:  There are Dubai Metro services for Terminals 1 and 3. Automated trains run daily every 10 minutes from 6 am to 10 pm, except on Fridays when they run from 1 pm to 11 pm. Please note that during the holy month of Ramadan, these hours change, and you can only carry two suitcases, including hand luggage.

Shuttle: Numerous upscale hotels provide free shuttle facilities to and from the airport. When scheduling your trip, it is best to confirm this.

Cab: The government-operated, cream-colored cabs are rated as safe and effective. They depart from a location near Terminals 1, 2, and 3. A cost of AED 20 is required, and the meter sets an additional charge.

If there isn’t any traffic, it should take around 10 minutes and cost AED 45 to get into the city’s heart.

Car Parking

Several parking areas outside Terminals 1, 2, and 3 provide short- and long-term parking opportunities. You can park in the short-term parking spaces for up to 5 hours. Long-term parking areas are somewhere further, but you can take a bus.

Information Desks

In Terminals 1 and 3, there are information desks in the arrivals area. The airport handles a lot of impatient foreign visitors, and the crew is trained in providing excellent client services. However, with such huge numbers of clients to interact with, be ready for the occasional annoying staff.

Airport Amenities

Money and communications: The airport is furnished with ATMs, and exchange offices are close to gates 8, 18, and 22.

The largest baggage handling facility in the world is at Dubai Airport. The Lost & Found department is in the underground Departures Level of Terminal 1 and is open 24/7.

Conference and business: The airport has several lounges, particularly between Terminals 1 and 3. There are two business centers: Global Link, close to gate 16, provides secretarial offerings, workstations with internet access, and fax systems.

In addition to workstations, the Connect Business Center includes a conference area and many meeting rooms. Plus, the airport has advanced kiosks with internet service that you can pay for with a credit card.

Shopping: The transit area between Terminals 1 and 3 has a huge duty-free unit, as does Terminal 2. There is a duty-free area in Terminal 3 reserved only for Emirates clients. The airport in Dubai is no different from the rest of the city when it comes to shopping. Though ready to wait in line at busy hours.

Food and drink: All terminals at Dubai International include more than 200 restaurants and food outlets, so you’re likely to find something you want. The major food court is located on Terminal 1’s departure level.
